Outside the Box

I recently met a very talented artist and was so impressed by her work, I decided to show it here on my blog.

Her name is BreeAnn Veenstra, and jeeze, she’s good at what she does.  She’s an art major at Grand Valley State University.  Her goal?  To make children dream and adults believe.

In addition to illustration, BreeAnn also enjoys writing, web design, and printmaking. She desperately wants to swim with dolphins and loves flying, even if it is only in her dreams.  She grew up surrounded by the beautiful country of northern Michigan’s lower peninsula. Wildlife and art were frequent companions both through her childhood activities and her father’s own art business, E-Scape Art Glass. She is continuously inspired by the natural world and its wildlife as well as the unending possibilities of combining these with the surreal and fantastical. Consequently, BreeAnn thoroughly enjoys including mythical or fantastical elements in her works when she can.

Mario Cart Wii!

I recently purchased Mario Kart for Wii.  I definitely didn’t regret it; It’s a blast.  The controls are easy to use, fun, and totally interactive.  Players of any age can play, whether they are five years old or fifty.  The feature that sets this Mario Kart apart from its predecessors is the fact you can actually steer with the Wii controller locked into a steering wheel.  It makes it feel like you’re actually driving the vehicles!

I definitely would recommend this game to anyone; It’s a definite 10/10.  The best part is if you already own 2-4 Wii remotes, it won’t cost much to buy the steering wheels; they run about five dollars each, which is a relief, especially in this economy.

I recently downloaded this song from Amazon.com and was extremely pleased with it– Dashboard didn’t let me down.  As a few of you know, Dashboard Confessionals is one of my favorite bands.  I’ve bought all of their CD’s and have listened to their songs hundreds of times.  I feel like Dashboard has a type of unique and special music that no other band can ever match.  When I hear a new CD is coming out, I’m always afraid that their music will somehow be tainted by the techno-shit and sound effects of other music, but Belle of the Boulevard is just as pure as Hands Down or Bend and Not Break.  Good job, Chris.

I recently bought the game Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Nintendo Wii.  I, like most people, have played other versions of the Smash Bros games (Super Smash Bros for N64, to be exact and have always enjoyed them.  Well, SSB Brawl was no let down.

The Wii Controller isn’t a good idea if you’re serious about the game.  Purchase a few GameCube Compatible Controller from Amazon.com (or just one if you’re tight on funds).  These are amazing and work perfectly for the game.  Otherwise, you turn the Wii remote sideways and use that as if it was a controller– It’s very awkward.

Other than the controller, the game is amazing.  You can unlock 35 characters total, which is amazing!  There are also a ton of different stages.

If you’re playing solo, there is an ongoing storyline called the Subspace Emissary.

All in all, I give this game a 9.5 out of 10 rating and thoroughly enjoyed playing the game. It’ll be a favorite for a long time to come.
