Super Smash Bros Brawl

Posted by Nick On September - 30 - 2009

I recently bought the game Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Nintendo Wii.  I, like most people, have played other versions of the Smash Bros games (Super Smash Bros for N64, to be exact and have always enjoyed them.  Well, SSB Brawl was no let down.

The Wii Controller isn’t a good idea if you’re serious about the game.  Purchase a few GameCube Compatible Controller from Amazon.com (or just one if you’re tight on funds).  These are amazing and work perfectly for the game.  Otherwise, you turn the Wii remote sideways and use that as if it was a controller– It’s very awkward.

Other than the controller, the game is amazing.  You can unlock 35 characters total, which is amazing!  There are also a ton of different stages.

If you’re playing solo, there is an ongoing storyline called the Subspace Emissary.

All in all, I give this game a 9.5 out of 10 rating and thoroughly enjoyed playing the game. It’ll be a favorite for a long time to come.

Livejournal Teams Up with Google Adsense

Posted by Nick On September - 24 - 2009

Here is the email that LiveJournal users received this morning from lj_notify@livejournal.com:

If you have a paid or permanent account on LiveJournal, you can start earning some extra pocket money simply by doing what you love to do on LiveJournal, like writing, sharing photos, and catching up with friends! The more people who visit your journal, the more money you can earn. It’s that simple. You’ll get to control where ads appear and whether you prefer text or image ads. You can even customize colors and choose different ad sizes and formats. LiveJournal is turning over 100% of net proceeds to you. (After Google takes their cut, the rest is yours.)

Here’s how it works: If you sign up for Your Journal – Your Money, you’ll see Google Adsense ads displayed on your own journal. To help your friends in the program earn extra cash, you can opt-in to see ads on their pages as well. As always, paid and permanent account holders who don’t opt-in will not view ads on other LiveJournal pages.

Here’s all you’ll need to get started:

  • A paid account on LiveJournal: If you don’t have one, click here (it costs from $19.95/year)
  • Next, click here to sign up for a Google AdSense account or to associate your existing AdSense account with your LiveJournal account
  • Complete the easy sign-up process and choose the type of ads you wish to display
  • Keep posting and start earning extra income now

This is also awesome news for LiveJournal users!  If you already use LiveJournal and have a large audience, you have an opportunity to tap into that using Google Adsense.

Douche Bag of the Week: Glenn Beck

Posted by Nick On September - 18 - 2009

Douche Bag of the Week: Glenn Beck

“Fox News Channel commentator Glenn Beck said he believes President Barack Obama is a racist .  Beck made the statement during a guest appearance Tuesday on the “Fox & Friends” morning show. He said Obama has exposed himself as a person with ‘a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture’ ” (Glenn Beck says, KDVR.com).

Erm…. What?  Sounds like a bunch of right-wing name calling to me.  We could have said that Bush was racist (Kanye West did) against other cultures thousands of times.  Not only did he cut off anyone who wasn’t America or Britian, he was a stereotypical white Texan.  But calling Obama racist?  Isn’t that slander?

“His [Beck's] remarks came during a discussion of Obama’s reaction to the arrest of Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. Gates is black and was arrested for disorderly conduct by a white policeman over a misunderstanding about a break-in at Gates’ home” (Glenn Beck says, KDVR.com).

…I’m not even going to continue.  What an idiot.

STICKING WITH SIS
River Valley Football

Nick Dettmann
Staff Writer

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

THREE OAKS, Mich. – No, it couldn’t be.

It would be just too perfect.

River Valley senior Tyler Allen scooped up a Lake Michigan Catholic fumble at about the 50 yard line and headed for the end zone.

Ten months, or 303 days, since the passing of his 18-year-old sister, Nikki, in a car accident, Allen was nearing a touchdown in his first game since losing his older sister, wearing the same jersey number she used to wear on the Mustangs’ softball team – No. 21.

The Mormon: Part One

Posted by Nick On September - 15 - 2009

[This is an actual story-- Everything you read is true.  The person in this story would like to remain anonymous, but comments are always welcome.]

The Mormon: An LGBT Story
Part One of Two

I was 13 when I first thought I might be attracted to males. I was very religious (Mormon to be exact). I went to my bishop and explained how I felt. He told me that I had made a good choice coming to him, that in doing so on my own accord just to pray to god for help. That God would take the feelings away. That since I was being humble and whatnot that God would help. At age 16 I stopped praying. 3 years and it only got “worse”. I had no attraction to females, and was constantly checking out guys. The Mormon (Continued)

Posted by Nick On September - 15 - 2009

[This post is part two of an LGBT story.  You can find part one here.]

_files_images_2007_04_anti-gay-hate-crimeI ended up calling the cops to go back to the house to get my stuff. When I met with the cop he told me that I was a minor and that I HAD to go back home. So he took me home and talked to my parents. He told them that they couldn’t kick me out. So the cop motioned me back into the house. It was a horrible feeling, the idea of being fed to the wolves. I went back inside.

Much drama happened the next year. Arguments with my parents. Falling out with friends due my sexuality.

One awesome memory I had was Gym class in the locker room. I was the person to unlock the doors for the locker room. A asshole kind of guy said “hurry up fag” I told him to f*ck off. A few minutes later in the locker room, I was at the end of the locker room changing back into my street clothes when the guy came up with like 4 other guys. They started calling me anti-gay names and I was thinking wow is this really going to happen? Am, I really going to get my ass kicked for being gay? Just then when the 4 guys were inches away from me, about 10 other guys came up and pretty much screamed in sync “LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!” They were all the buff jock guys. I didn’t even know half of them. The 4 guys saw their defeat and just walked away. It was an amazing feeling being rescued like that and having people stick up for me. The rest of the year, the 4 guys never even looked in my direction again. Read the rest of this entry »

Google’s Top Ten List of Sites to Avoid

Posted by Nick On September - 15 - 2009

I hate to just pull snippits from sites and post links, but this is a pretty serious article, so I’m going to post this really quickly with a link.

“Google’s security team has identified the current Top 10 malware sites in the world. The list reads like a rogue’s gallery of the darker side of the web. Sites listed generally use ‘drive-by downloading’ to install and run malware on vistors’ computers automatically. To make things worse many of these domains are linked through to via advertising and other third party content on a vast number of high-traffic websites (Google serves up, nextweb.com). ”

You can find this list here.
